Bighill Creek Preservation Society-AGM-March 14th-2023

Notice: Bighill Creek Preservation Society Annual General Meeting

The BCPS AGM is scheduled for 7:00 PM March 14th, 2023 via Zoom.

Please register your participation at info@bighillcreek.ca prior to March 13th so we can provide you the necessary access information.

In addition to the standard meeting agenda, two engaging presentations will be provided.

Sophie Prévost, a master’s student at U of C will discuss her summer long investigation of the numerous springs which sustain the unique ecosystem of the Park and Creek. Her presentation is entitled “Hydrogeological Characterization of Springs in the Bighill Creek Watershed”.

Wendell Koning, an experienced limnologist will review his extensive evaluation of highs and lows of water quality in the Creek. His presentation is entitled “Water Chemistry and Microbiology of Big Hill Springs, Bighill Creek and Millennium Creek in 2022”.

In addition to the AGM, we’d also like to announce our upcoming Biodiversity Blitz, a citizen science project.  BCPS will invite members and other interested parties to participate in a day-long blitz within publicly available lands of Bighill Creek Valley. Participants will record through photos and GPS positions, all manner of living, archaeological and geological interest items and turn them into BCPS for verifying identification and documentation. We hope information gathered will be useful to the Society as we proceed to assemble six years of data gathering from the watershed, into a final State of the Watershed Report.

Proposed Date for the Blitz (weather permitting) is June 10, 2023.

Proposed Gathering areas within watershed: to be announced closer to the date.
