Sometimes with so many irons in BCPS’s fire, we forget to emphasize that our group’s primary objective is to complete a State of the Watershed (SOW) report. We’ve completed seven years of research and data collection through a combination of citizen volunteerism, grants and as part of the University of Calgary and SAIT’s student and staff projects. BCPS work will add to that of the Bow River Basin Council’s Bow River watershed reporting,
In 2023, BCPS hired Wendell Koning to coordinate writing our research into a final document that will contribute to Alberta’s Water for Life Strategy and become a useful citizens’ tool toward protection of the creek and springs – the heart of the watershed. That year we received grants from the Land Stewardship Centre and Bow River Basin Council to initiate the write-up of our findings and the SOW report.
This year, we have received grants from the Land Stewardship Centre, BRBC and this week we were awarded an Alberta Ecotrust Springboard Grant. These three grants will enable another year of writing and organizing our SOW. We are beholden to our grantors and are especially thankful that Ecotrust’s grant will ensure a full year’s work that should bring us near completion. Thank you, Ecotrust!!
