BCPS released its State of the Watershed Report in late November 2025. Since release we have had enthusiastic interest and received many accolades, attesting to the 10 long years of research and writing that went into the report. BCPS is optimistic about recognition for the need to protect this significant valley and creek. We have had a number of requests for meetings and presentations including:
- Michael Roycroft, Regional Director, Kananaskis Region, Government of Alberta.
- Allison Whiting – newly elected Rocky View Councillor – (much of Bighill Creek lies within her county zone)
- Town of Cochrane – presentation to Natural Environment Protective Task Force
- Town of Cochrane – meeting with Chief Administrative Officer, Drew Hyndman
Meetings booked in the immediate future include:
- Town of Cochrane – presentation to full Council
- Sarah Elmeligi, MLA, Banff-Kananaskis
Based on the enthusiastic reception for the Watershed Report, we expect requests to meet and discuss the report will continue. Fortunately, BCPS board members are well equipped to speak to the report. As well, our writing coordinator and water quality volunteer, Wendell Koning, continues to promote and make presentations on the SOW report for BCPS.
