Wildlife Corridors and Native Biodiversity Must be Protected

In a recent letter to the Editor of the Cochrane Eagle, BCPS VP Vivian Pharis urges RVC and developers of the proposed Glenbow Ranch to give serious consideration and respect for wildlife. Herds of elk, moose, deer and many smaller species move through this area and the proposed development is a serious threat. Pharis writes “it is incumbent upon Cochrane and RVC to put biodiversity first as growth continues to consume already diminished natural habitats and movement corridors”. “Neglecting the implementation of wildlife corridors and habitats is contrary to RVC management and development plans.” The extent of the proposals discussed by RVC are shown in this map from the Cochrane Eagle. There are even more and denser proposed developments on the north side of Highway 1A, not shown on this map..
